Avon Squash AGM - Weds, 10th May 2017 at Redland - minutes

Just to let you know the minutes from the AGM are now available at: https://badsquash.co.uk/docs/AGM%20minutes%20May%202017.pdf. Good turnout, a few decisions made, general update on our county, please take a look.

All previous minutes are also available from same page under About->Committee.

The AGM is on Weds. Please do come along. The agenda is below but I'll pull out a few key points:

    • There will be savoury nibbles and a match to watch from 6:30pm. We're spicing it up a bit with a little tempting cash on the table to make it worth winning and a tenner for the shot of the match - to be judged by you...
    • The AGM proper will start at 7:30pm. Special topics for this year:
      • Should teams get a bonus for having (and using) a qualified ref?
      • Should we run a county knock-out event?
      • Should we do something with our cash reserves to do more development with juniors?
      • Should we run a rackball league?
      • Rule chanages - should we do away with the order change rule?
      • Where are we with ES membership?
      • Can we make food optional?
    • Last chance for nominations:
      • Best junior
      • Greatest contribution/player of the year

Minutes from last year are now online:

    Thanks.

With the AGM just a week away, here's the agenda. Please let me know if you have anything else you'd like to raise. Also, we're still open for suggestions for Greatest contribution for the year and Junior of the year. Please reply ASAP on those.

Also please let me know if you're coming as we need numbers for nibbles. Some of you have, many of you haven't....

    Starting at 6:30

    • Exhibition match. A player or two from Vivo. We may even throw Dan into the mix. The goal is entertainment...
    • Some savoury nibbles. Maybe not Michelin star but tasty.
    • A free drink from the bar. Reward for showing up!

Then at 7:30 (ish - may depend on the carnage on court and if there are any sausage rolls left) the AGM:

    1. Chairman’s welcome
    2. Apologies for absence
    3. Matters arising
    4. Approval of 2016 AGM minutes - to be distributed ASAP
    5. Treasurer’s report
    6. County events update
    7. Junior development update
    8. Girls county development
    9. League participation summary
    10. ES membership and NGB update
    11. Election of officers
    12. Roll of Honour. List of nominees to be voted for on the night.
      • Jeremy Burns contribution to squash award
      • George Morgan best junior
      • Most Improved player of the Year (from the website)
      • SquashLevels Cup (from the website)
    13. Presentation of the trophies for the mixed division play-off winners and the ladies division winners
    14. League reports – Mixed, Ladies and Doubles. Brief!
    15. Rule updates – any changes brought up. Just a couple of requests so far
    16. Topics raised - anything to bring up.
      1. We have a question about running a Racketball league
      2. Also, should teams get a bonus for having (and using) a qualified ref
    17. IT update - just a reminder that you can run your boxes on badsquash and it works well very well with a tablet on the wall.
    18. AOB
    19. Close

Update - AGM 'do' and request for numbers.

We're going to make the AGM more of an end of season event this year so will have drinks, nibbles and an exhibition match or two from Vivo to show us how it's done. For the nibbles, we need to know how many people will be attending so can you please let me know if you will be coming along? Team and club captains please pass this message on to your players to make sure everyone is invited.

Can you please let me know by the end of next week (i.e. the week after Easter)? Thanks.

The AGM will be held at Redland on Weds 10th May with these headline (approximate) timings:

    • 6:30pm - Exhibition matches, drinks and nibbles.
    • 7:30pm thru 9:00pm - the AGM

Can you also be thinking about:

    • Your nominations for player of the year, junior of the year, greatest contribution of the year
    • Any changes you'd like to see in the rules
    • Any other ideas for the betterment of squash in Avon - maybe the way the leagues are run or perhaps you have ideas to get more people playing or whatever. Please be creative and let us know your ideas.

    More detailed agenda to follow.

    Thanks,

       Richard

    Hi.

We need to be thinking about this year's AGM. So far we have a date - Weds, 10th May - so please pop that in your diary to start with. Everything else we need to sort out.

First question is around getting you to attend. We'll offer the usual £5 off each team for each represented club but what else can we do? What about turning it into a bit of a do with some games and nibbles?

This is the one time in the year we get to agree on what changes to make for next year so it's worth attending to get that bee in your bonnet off your chest so to speak. And even if you like how it is now, what's to stop some idiot idea being voted into fashion if you're not there to voice your opinion?

So, let's start with a date. Can you let us know your opinion on what we can do to make it more attendable from your perspective. And even it not, let us know why not. And if you have something you'd like to bring up, let us know sooner rather than later so we can start to put the agenda together.

    Thanks,

Richard on behalf of the Avon Committee
