    AGM Presentation

Below Nick Drysdale presents his case for a merger between BaD Squash and Avon SRA, he will also give a 10minute presentation at the AGM and a 15 minute question and answer session will follow before a vote is taken.

    Dear Squash Player,

Here is a brief explanation of why we should seriously consider reuniting the BAD league with Avon Squash and Racketball (ASR).

We all know that in some clubs squash membership is reducing. Refurbishment and up grading squash courts is difficult without an adequate funding stream. As a county we have missed out on years of potential funding from England Squash & Racketball (ERS) that distributed £1.7M over the last three years. ESR have a specific sustainability department to distribute these funds to almost any reasonable squash project such as replacing lights, floors or walls refurbishment.

Jan Ellis has been a major driving force, along with a dedicated band of volunteers who have really developed Junior squash in the county, which has also had the benefit of increasing the number of players in the BAD league. But others must now step up to keep this excellent work going. The presence of Hadrian Stiff via Elite Squash and other coaches means that we have access to some excellent squash coaches.  Avon and BAD league together could fund and kick start coaching initiatives which involve youngsters and adult beginner and improvers around the County.

There are also opportunities for raising money for your club through the running of tournaments, including ESR sanctioned Bronze and Silver events. The Avon Squash committee has the expertise and I.T. capability to help you run your tournament.

By merging the BAD league with ASR, we can pool our efforts and spend our money more wisely to support a coaching and junior development programme; reinstate a regular calendar of events, and access ESR\Sport England grants for our clubs.

Over ¾ of the league are already affiliated to ESR, so there would be no additional costs to players of those clubs. In order to access their services and benefits, clubs need to be affiliated to the ESR governing body, and I propose that we have one committee to work on behalf of all the clubs.

I hope you will discuss this proposal with your club’s membership and listen to my presentation at the BAD AGM on Monday 14th May and then vote for this proposal.
