Penalty clarification - player order based on ranking level

FAO ... ALL CLUB / TEAM CAPTAINS:

Due to there being a number of occurrences seen during the course of the last Mixed Autumn 2011 season, concerning better players playing in positions that were MORE THAN TWICE the ranking level (not to be confused with ranking position) of the player above them, I have taken the decision to impose a NEW fixed penalty of 3 points against the offending player and a bonus of 3 points to the opposing player / team.

This penalty will only apply to players who appear to be 'significantly' out of order and who cause a disadvantage against the opposing player and team. The checks that will be carried out by the website will also apply to new players after the results of a match are entered. May I remind all team captains that it is your discretion to play a new player in the right position.

For example, it is acceptable for PLAYER X with a level of 1000 to play above PLAYER Y with a level of 1300, but if PLAYER X plays above PLAYER Z with a level of 2000, then a penalty will apply.

By allowing a better player to play above another player by no more than twice the ranking level will still provide flexibility to team captains when choosing where a player, or players, can play and allows them to make a decision based on their local knowledge of that player, or players', ability.

The penalty for players playing in positions by more than twice the ranking level of the player above them should only be levied in the most extreme of cases. If the ranking level is incorrect at the time, usually due to the affects of previous matches involving injuries for example, then I will consider removing the penalty if the reason for the incorrect ranking level is found to be justified. The website provides us with the ability to cancel automatic penalties.

To allow club / team captains to become more aware and familiar with the introduction of this new fixed penalty for playing a player in a position of more than twice the ranking level of the player above them, there will be an amnesty period from penalties being deducted from the team's points total until the matches being played on 31 January 2012, 1 February 2012 and 2 February 2012 have been played.

The application of this new automated fixed penalty will also be reviewed at that point and also after the matches being played on 21 February 2012 and 22 February 2012, to ensure the application of this penalty is working correctly throughout the whole of the BAD leagues.

    Kind regards, Jeremy
