    Threatened court closures at Horfield

This article has been posted by the Horfield Box players and Kingsdown & Horfield Squash club to make the wider squash commity aware of what's going on. Ideas on possible action/re-action much appreciated.

Cowardly SLM try to squash Squash at Horfield

SLM who run Bristol's council sports centres have dictated the removal of two of the squash courts at Horfield to make way for an overflow exercise studio.

“SLM are employing cowardly tactics, I won't go as far as saying underhand because of slander rules, they did not consult with the squash playing community at Horfield, rather informed us at the twelfth hour that the decision had been made and we should make way for it! We have had this confirmed by one of their own employees when we handed a letter in to complain, “you weren't told till the building work had been booked” were his/her words.“ says Andy Page chairman of Kingsdown & Horfield Squash club.

It appears that since receiving (over two weeks ago) the letter indicating disappointment in the decision and the lack of consultation, SLM have further aggravated the community by only responding with an acknowledgement of receipt and no informal or formal response.

“We are sure that some sensible compromise can be reached, i.e. the loss of one court would still keep up with the high demand for courts, and make running squash teams and practice nights viable at Horfield, but it appears that SLM want to run the clock down on our ability to affect their decision.” says Andy Page.

If you visit the Horfield courts any night of the week they are heavily in use and what always surprises me, this is up-till 10.30 at night !
